Srinagar, July 16: Chairman of the Committee on Environment in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly and MLA M.Y. Tarigami<\/strong> has welcomed the issuance of the Government Circular for the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, describing it as a landmark administrative step that will strengthen scientific waste management and environmental governance across the Union Territory.<\/p>\n The newly issued circular mandates four-way segregation of waste at source, making compliance compulsory for all Government departments, institutions, and public establishments while ensuring adherence to the directions of the Supreme Court of India.<\/p>\n Tarigami expressed appreciation to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah<\/strong>, the Housing & Urban Development Department, the General Administration Department, and all concerned departments for taking what he termed timely and decisive measures to operationalize the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026.<\/p>\n He said the initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to environmental protection, scientific waste management, and public health. According to Tarigami, the circular marks a significant move towards institutionalizing sustainable waste management practices across government offices and institutions.<\/p>\n The Environment Committee Chairman stressed that the effective implementation of four-way waste segregation, public awareness campaigns, and strict adherence to statutory provisions would play a key role in making Jammu & Kashmir cleaner, greener, and more environmentally resilient.<\/p>\n Tarigami also highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts among Government departments, Urban Local Bodies, educational institutions, and citizens to ensure the successful implementation of the policy.
